The 16 best British foods and restaurants in Hudson (2025)

Dame is a popular seafood restaurant known for its British-inspired dishes and classic cocktails. Originally a pop-up, it has now become a permanent fixture, offering a variety of seafood options such as fish and chips, broiled oysters with green chartreuse hollandaise, blowfish tails with chili butter, and squid skewers. The menu also features English-influenced items like kedgeree rice with curried crab and proper English chips.

I had a really enjoyable meal at Dame. The dining area is super cozy and I remember being really impressed at how efficiently everything operates out of such a small space. Our orders came out very quickly, and our waiter checked in frequently (but not overly so - the correct amount). Aside from the great service and pleasant ambiance, the food was really fantastic. I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu, but of course we had to try the fish and chips, and I'm really glad we did. The drinks were amazing too - with the hanky panky being the unanimous table favorite. For dessert we went with the sticky toffee pudding and I'm still thinking about it. I would definitely jump on any opportunity to try this place.

If I could give 4.5 ⭐️ I would.I came in with very high expectations, and while not disappointed, I wasn’t wowed. It’s very good. Portions are very small so be prepared to spend $$$ if you’re hungry. Short menu and mostly seafood. Everything is very good, but of what we had, only the baked oysters were outstanding.Baked oysters: outstanding, highly recommendFish with beans - very good.Crab and white asparagus - good but underwhelmingScallion skewers - very good

My wife and I were able to get a Friday evening reservation, sitting at the counter and getting to enjoy the view of the (very) compact kitchen during our meal. After starting with martinis from the bar, we worked our way through the menu with some assistance from our helpful server. We started with the oysters, and continued with the squid and scallion skewers and raw scallops with peas and arugula. We split the famous fish and chips and the tuna tartare for our mains. Everything was incredibly fresh, delicious, and meticulously prepared. While certainly not cheap, we felt we received great value for the quality and enjoyment from our dishes. Service was friendly, helpful, and happy to share their knowledge of both the food menu and unique wine list. A++

Super cozy and intimate space. The entrees and smaller dishes were very good especially the oysters and the uni scallops. The fish fillet was hearty and delicious. The only dish that was lacking was the kedgeree rice with crab.

We've had the opportunity to eat here twice and loved both times. The fish and chips are a must, the breading on the fish is ethereally light and crispy. Other dishes are perfectly prepared with bright flavors that complement the seafood. Get whatever version of tuna is on the menu and don't skip dessert. The strawberry trifle with black peppercorn meringue haunts my dreams.

Dame focuses on seafood, serving it in small plates, and it did not disappoint. The fish and chips were hands down the best I’ve ever had. Every other dish we ordered was equally delicious, and the dessert was a perfect ending to the meal. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Great little restaurant for a lovely dinner by yourself at the bar. It was a bit too warm but that did not make the experience any worse. The staff is friendly and welcoming.I usually salt my food generously but found the meals to be too salty for me. Must have been me on that particular day that I could not tolerate much. The waitress was kind enough to offer a replacement with less salt but didn't want to be picky and still enjoyed my meal. The taste was there and the fish was well-cooked so that little bit of additional salt did not ruin the taste. Much better fish and chips than I've had in London.

An exceptional meal from start to finish. This restaurant has been on my list for a long time and it lived up to my expectations. The highlights for me were the tuna tartare toast, whole sole and squid and scallion skewers. All excellent in their flavour profiles and cook. The sticky toffee pudding was also very good however it is my personal preference to pair it with ice cream or cream as it lightens and contrasts the dessert a bit more. Cannot wait to return and try the rest of the menu.

By far the best fish and chips in NYC. The other dishes were also very well done and price were reasonable. The restaurant itself is in a small space and since it's an open kitchen, you'll be smelling like it if you're seated at/close to the bar area.

Tiny restaurant which explains why resys are so hard to get. Food is so well executed. We loved everything. The whitefish croquettes were my fav. Each bite is a satisfying mouthful of fish meat. The oysters were very flavorful, a little salty so it would pair well with bread. The lobster and grilled cabbage salad was a little burnt but otherwise very tasty. Fish & Chips is so crispy and fluffy. Good portion size too. Service was a bit slow. There was a long pause between courses, understandable because they have a small kitchen.

Lively, vibrant, loud, fun. Service is great. Food is... well, hmm... it's all fresh and well prepared, but at the same time, the kitchen seems to have a real problem with salt - in both directions. I don't think a single dish we had wasn't under or over salted, and noticeably.

Quaint restaurant with a strong seafood focus and a compelling wine and cocktail list. I loved the grilled oysters and tuna tartare. In fact, the famous fish and chips was good but I felt secondary to the fresh seafood options we had before. Overall, lovely place to make a visit.

Excellent, cozy seafood bistro with fantastic service, ambience, and of course food. Yes, the fish and chips are divine, as well as the fabulous squid skewers, but definitely try the tuna tartare with bottarga as well as the croquettes. Uni and scallop dish was sublime. Even the bar seating is quite phenomenal as you get served directly by the chefs, and can engage all of your senses.

Had a great meal at Dame - everything we had was delicious - the flavors were so well thought out and the food were not too heavy. Service was very perfect - I really appreciated how attentive everyone was while giving us personal space (including the head chef who was firing away in the open kitchen but was monitoring our meal unassumingly to pace our meal). Will definitely be back when we’re back in town - if we can get a reso!

Everything is amazing! Grilled oysters were spectacular, beautiful flavor. Fish and chips as good as it gets, and the sticky toffee pudding was wild.

I had a wonderful dinner experience at Dame. The restaurant is quite small so making a reservation ahead of time is essential. The food there, and we tried pretty much everything, was delicious. Everything was perfectly prepared and well seasoned. The star of their menu, in my opinion, is Fish and Chips: the batter was airy, light and crisp, and the fish was so juicy and perfectly cooked. Over the years I have tried many fish and chips, and this one is the best. One dish that I was disappointed with was Eaton Mess. It wasn't really an Eaton Mess, but rather a version of Pavlova, and not a good one: the merengue is overbaked and is very hard (in pavlova it's supposed to be crispy on the outside and marshmallowy on the inside.)

Came with a few friends. Menu is small and could easily order everything. We almost did for 4 people. My favourite was the poached cod with lentils. Oysters were quite good too along with squid skewers. Flavors and presentation was on point. Didn’t think anything special of the Fish and Chips. But the portion sizes are small. Price is good for quality but not the portion sizes of the food. Would have liked more options on the menu but I understand it is specially curated.

Really don’t want to leave a star review. This was a week I’d also dined at butter and quality Italian so I was really looking forward to it. I was looking forward to this for months and had really high expectations. I don’t think it met those. I did not know it was a small plates restaurant. It could just be culturally not aligned but do you know that treatment you get when you do not order enough or a certain price point….that’s how it felt. The tuna was too salty for my taste but after that critique every dish was then not finished with any salt. The croquettes are good but not great and I just felt that was the tenor of the meal. Good, solid but not great for me. Note** I did not have the fish and chips but it looked great. The dessert portions are small so just be aware. I think if you’re into English pub it’ll definitely be for you. Overall not a place I would return to but some places in the city just aren’t for everyone.
