and Mrs. Melvin Fort of 5007 Wilburn, has been killed in action in Viet Nam, his parents were notified by A communications specialist with the First Cavalry Division, Fort, 22, became the seventh Shelby Countian to lose his life in a Viet Nam fighting. He was killed Wednesday in a search-and-destroy mission in the area near Plei Me and Chu Pong Mountain, the Defense Department said. Fort was a member of Battery 21st Artillery. His division suffered heavy losses Wednesday in the la Drang River Valley.
"He wrote not long ago and said he was spending most of his time repairing broken communications Sen. Atkins, Apportionment Fighter, Dies KNOXVILLE. (AP) State Sen. Hobart Atkins, 69, died yesterday apparently without learning he had been victorious in two of the bitterest legal struggles in his long law career. A veteran of four terms in the Senate, he was attorney of record in both the legislative reapportionment and congressional redistricting litigation.
A three-judge federal court in Nashville ruled last week that the 1965 Legislative Reapportionment Act was constitutional and that the congressional redistricting statute was not. Atkins fought valiantly to force the legislature to reapportion itself, and in the courts to have the redistricting act overturned. Services for the Republican lawmaker will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Stevens Mortuary. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Atkins never married. Survivors include two sisters, and a brother, John N. Atkins, Nashville. A practicing attorney here for mores than 40 years, Atkins involved in the legislative reapportionment case which resulted in a landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1962.
A native of Union County, Atkins came to Knoxville in his early teens. He served in the Navy World War I and attended University of Tennessee. Carl Louis Seguin Carl Louis Sequin, 45, an employe of Kimbrough, interior decorators, many years, died about 5 p.m. Sunday after a heart attack at his ho 1985 Madison. He had been released three weeks a go from Baptist Hospital after treatment there and had intended to go back to work today.
C. L. Sequin A lifelong resident of Memphis, Mr. Sequin was a graduate of Tech High School. During World War II he was an Air Force pilot and served in the South Pacific.
He was active in his church, Lindenwood Christian, and had served as Sunday School superintendent, taught a Bible class and worked with the Boy Scout troop sponsored by the church. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Louise Draper Sequin; four sisters, Mrs. R. D.
Williams and Mrs. Stewart Hughes of Memphis, Mrs. David Hughey of Hughes, and Mrs. Robert Millerwise of Sebewaing, and a brother. Services will be at 3:45 p.m.

Futrell, 75, former chief administrative officer of the Farm Credit Administration in Washington, who was with the Department of Agriculture 25 years before retiring six years ago, died at 5 p.m. Sunday at Baptist Hospital after several months illness. Born in Paducah, Mr. Futrell moved to Memphis when a young man and was employed by Nickey Bros.

Erwin Cordes Erwin Cordes, 86, former architect and for many years an independent investor, died about 5:30 p.m. Sunday at his home, 8598 Dogwood Road in Germantown.
He had been ill four years. Born in Baden Baden, Germany, Mr. Cordes moved to Memphis in childhood and returned to Germany to study architecture. He worked as an architect in Philadelphia, several years after graduation from university in Germany before returning to Memphis. He was a skilled painter and had traveled extensively in Europe and had collected many art objects there.

McCallie suffered the attack at Municipal Airport, Lovell Field, while seeing his daughter, Margaret Anne off to New York. McCallie was born on the school's campus in 1911 and at his death still made his home there. His father, Dr. J. P.

Joseph Hospital today with injuries received in a crash at Joest and St. Elmo. Katharine Terrell, 16, of 2251 Clifton, driver of the other car, was charged by police with failure to yield right of way after the crash Sunday afternoon. Peggy Ann Myers, 16, of 2135 Layten, a passenger in the Terrell car, was also injured but not seriously. Jordan received head injuries while his wife had leg and arm injuries.
